School cricketers vie for top honours in Observer-Mobitel Contest

School Cricket Divisions I,II & III approved by the Ministry of Education for Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association is renamed Platinum for Division I, Gold for Division II and Silver for Division III. All schools falling under the respective divisions are informed to take note of this renaming.

The 36th Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest is organised by Sri Lanka’s flagship English newspaper with the largest circulation – the Sunday Observer.

 OBSERVER-MOBITEL CONTEST...... The ever popular Sunday Observer/Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of The Year 2014 contest is back again. The voting for the 36th Sunday Observer/Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of The Year 2014 competition will begin from next Sunday (26 January) with coupons appearing in the Sunday Observer, Daily News, Dinamina and Thinakaran as last year in three segments namely Platinum,Gold and Silver. School cricket is conducted in three divisions,namely division 1,2 and 3. In division one there are 36 schools, in division two there are 33 schools and in division 3 the highest number of schools (151) covering almost all parts of the country.

The name Mendis creates a lot of curiosity among the cricket crazy fraternity in the country. Yet another Mendis will be added to the cricketing clan from Moratuwa as The Sunday Observer/Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the year Kusal Mendis who won the coveted award on Friday became only the second Cambrian to take away the award, with Sahan Wijeratne judged as the winner in 2002.
