Blast from the past inspires another Show

Sri Lanka’s oldest and Premier school cricket awards show – the Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer contest, will be on the pitch for the 42nd year along with the newly introduced Schoolgirl Cricketer of the Year 2020 for the third year. Ever since the beginning of this contest, there has been a tremendous interest in all corners of the country, making this the Mother-of-All-Shows, and inspired by the initiative given by the Sunday Observer there has been a couple of similar events that emerged.

The 42nd edition of the most looked forward to by school cricketers, the Observer Mobitel School Cricketer 2020 contest gets off the mark today in a grand way. 
This is an event that has been the first and the most treasured Award for budding cricketers from school level to aspire to reach the highest level in the field of cricket. The ‘Observer Mobitel School Cricketer’ has been able to bring the best for cricket during the past 41 years which is a record none has been able match up to and contested by all schools playing in various divisions giving an equal opportunity for all cricketers to reach goals according to their performances.

Aravinda de Silva is a name synonymous with cricket around the world and when a legend like him speaks everyone has to sit back and listen because what he says is what he has learnt through his own experience. The most pertinent message De Silva made as chief guest at the 41st Observer/Mobitel School Cricketer of the Year awards ceremony at the Colombo Hilton on Friday was the important role parents, teachers and cricket coaches have to play in producing future leaders in cricket.

Observer-Mobitel School Cricketer of the Year show today

The grand crowning of Sri Lanka’s school cricketers boys and girls awards night - the 41st Observer-Mobitel School Cricketer of the Year popularly known as the ‘Mother of All Shows’ will take place at the Hilton Colombo today. 

The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd has organized the 41st edition of the grand show with sponsorship of Mobitel.

The Observer - Mobitel School Cricketer Awards will be telecast on Saturday (21) on ITN from 10 pm onwards.

Top school cricketers to be crowned today at glittering awards ceremony

Good old traditions will continue for the betterment of the game as the 41st Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year gala awards ceremony takes place at the Grand Ballroom of the Colombo Hilton starting at 5.30 pm today.

The Mega Show which has rendered yeoman service to thousands of up and coming schoolboy cricketers across the country for over four decades is organized by Sri Lanka’s flagship English newspaper Sunday Observer and sponsored by the country’s national mobile service provider Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel.
